Engineering Standards and SpecificationsLinda Hall Library has a collection exceeding 150,000 standards and specifications including military and federal specifications, and standards published by over three hundred professional societies and associations of private industry. An archival collection of structural codes, such as building, electrical, fire, plumbing, and mechanical, and of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, of the ASTM Annual Book of Standards, and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes is maintained. Starting in 1994 an archival collection of all standards is maintained, supplemented with the standards transferred with the Engineering Societies' Library collection. From 1959 to 1998, the Linda Hall Library was a depository for all military and federal specifications listed in the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards. For users in the library, electronic access to the complete set of Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) standards is available by a subscription with Information Handling Services. Many publications in the library’s Standards and Specifications collection are copyright protected and therefore may not be photocopied in their entirety. The library does have permission to copy some standards. For questions regarding copyright and photocopying of standards, please contact Document Delivery Services. Most standards and specifications, with a limit of ten, may be borrowed for a 24-hour period by registered borrowers in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
